Curators of Exceptional Fabrics Since 1988
THE STORY OF ALTON BROOKE
Alton Brooke was founded in 1988 by Peter Short, whose love of textiles began long before the company took shape. In the late 1970s, Peter travelled through India and the Near East, seeking fabrics that told a story, pieces woven by hand, rich in colour, history, and spirit. In remote workshops and historic weaving towns, he met artisans whose craft had been passed down through generations.
Their skill and dedication inspired him to share their artistry with a wider world, while helping preserve the traditions that shaped it.
From those early beginnings grew a company built on curiosity, integrity, and an unwavering respect for craftsmanship. Over the years, Alton Brooke has become known for its distinctive eye, curating fine fabrics, trimmings, rugs, and accessories from exceptional makers around the globe.
David Callaghan, who joined more than twenty-five years ago after a career in fashion, continues to expand the company’s creative reach. His deep knowledge of Europe’s finest fabric universe and his instinct for new talent have helped shape a collection that blends heritage with modern sensibility. He is passionate about discovering new suppliers for the luxury kaleidoscope of the many Alton Brooke offerings.
Today, Alton Brooke remains true to its founding spirit while looking forward. The company continues to collaborate with both long-established ateliers and contemporary artisans, discovering new designs that complement its timeless classics.
